How to measure your kitchen

1-You will need an A4 sheet of paper.  Draw the shape of your room, include doors and  windows, with the doors show the way they open.

2-Once you have drawn the kitchen write in the measurements in millimeters.

Measure all the walls and when measuring too doors or windows measure to the doors/window architrave.

Tip If any window has a sill less than 900mm from the floor please note this as a standard cabinet with worktop is 900mm high.

3-Measure the height of the ceiling and jot it down.

4-Once this is all written down, double check all the measurements.  Please include photos of your room as this will be very useful.

How to create a layout.

Photocopy the plan you have made so you have a few to work with,  when planning the layout.

Where to start.

1-Start with the sink.  Often sinks are under windows.  There are a few reasons for this listed below, although you can place the sink anywhere you desire.

  • You can’t have wall units where you have a window and units above a sink can be an annoyance so the space is perfect without sacrificing any storage.
  • A sink under the window receives good natural light
  • By having the sink on an outside wall it would have made plumbing for waste easier
  • It’s nice to watch what’s going on outside

Tip.  Dishwashers are usually next to the sink for easer plumbing.

2- Next place the essentials. Oven/hob and fridge.

Tip. When designing your kitchen imagine cooking and place the units where they would be most convenient.  For example the bin next to the sink.

3-Once you have done the base cabinets begin the wall counter top cabinets.

4-Email it over and we will send back a cad drawing with suggestions and comments.

Please contract us if any of this is unclear or you have any questions?
